They say that dead men tell no tales
Maybe you just lack the ears for listening
You spend your youth shouting "Carpe Diem"
And though the bones lay on graves
Covered in saliva, soaked in it, glistening
You die with bones still marrow filled
As though for all your desire of wanting more
There is always more still missing
You try your best to convince yourself
You lived life for all life’s worth living
But your regrets shout clearly through
Your battle cry’s soft whispering
You wanted to suck them dry
Drink up every part of life
But there you lie
Memories filled with empty strife
Wishing more time was yours for wishing
But wishing is what got you here
Wishing and wishing but no action
No path shorn clear
Through the field you proclaimed was too hard to tame
Your humanity is what you blame
The guilt, the shame
You carry it all
The weight, your excuse and mistress
Unwilling to give it up
So you feel justified in the fall
But dead men do tell tales
Pray, lend them an ear
Please listen
For if you do
Then maybe you, dear traveler, can steer clear
Of many dangers, toils, and snares
You’ll come across on your road
And should you trip or slip or fall
May the tales of old help guide you safely home
For home is there
It is, I swear
But traveler don’t lose heart
For many tales seem dry and bare
But can offer you fresh starts
For we must run and run to win
The race that’s set before
But to win, my friend
Is not to not fall down
But to get up one time more
For there is hope
And grace
And love
To be ours as we go
But should we fall
And not get up
We’ll reap just what we sow
And those dead men there in their graves
Could save you with their stories
For all the lusts in which they placed their trust
And thought would be their glory
Got them nowhere, nowhere fast
As theirs became tales filled with death
And mind you, some quite gory
So let’s not delay nor waste our days
Please listen and learn and heed the words
You are about to hear
Please learn from them
Who used their pens
To try to bless your ears
Please heed the lessons in their fails
For if you listen close, you could avoid the ropes
Of so many of life’s snares
For if you listen right, heeding their insight
You could avoid their plight
Their hell, their fight, their ails
For despite coming undone
And their swollen rotting tongues
Dead men tell cautionary tales

Cast out amongst the rowdy sea
"Sink or swim" they said
From the safety of their punctured rafts
Trying to ignore their menacing stares
That are piercing through my eyes
While they beg me to join them as the captain
Tempting, oh so tempting
Is the call of the sea of guilt and shame
Tempting, oh so tempting
To breathe in the salty death of a life at sea
Would be a welcome fate
Tempting, oh so tempting
Is the call of the sea of guilt and shame
Tempting, oh so tempting
To breathe in the salty death of a life at sea
Drifting for days without care and direction
Expecting to have run aground sooner rather than later
When does insanity kick in
The endless thought of self ruin
Haunts my waking dreams
Why, oh why
Did I ever agree to let this ship drag me
To the farthest reaches of the sea
Why, oh why
Tempting, oh so tempting
Is the call of the sea of guilt and shame
Tempting, oh so tempting
To breathe in the salty death of a life at sea
Would be a welcome fate

I walk myself to the cemetery
That I claimed I left so far behind me
I would never see this place again
What a fool I have made myself to think
That I could keep myself from this place
I take my shovel with me
To complete the grave I started so long ago
Shell, skin, and bone is all that I left myself to remember me by
I saw the reaper approaching me
I asked if my time had come
“It’s not a grave you should be in, son
It’s one you should get out of”
Depravity sets in
Depression takes over
Clawing my way out
Only digs me deeper in the earth
Digs me deeper in the earth
In the earth
Shell, skin, and bone is all that I left myself to remember me by
Not much of a man if you ask me
The depth of my grave
Only proves how long that I’ve been here
I can barely see the moon
Or the rising of the sun
I almost want to stay here forever

I etched my fate into the walkway
That was leading to a path that would ruin me
The aroma I was searching for
Became the stench of the dead
For he was a fetching young lad
At the beginning of his path
Look upon this wretched old man
Dying in the street
What I saw as worthwhile
And what I thought was accomplishment
Was only proving itself to separate me
Oh how my fate had dealt me
The only hand I was willing to play
Despised, I fashioned with nail and bone
What stalks about looking for petty souls
For he was a fetching young lad
At the beginning of his path
Look upon this wretched old man
Dying in the street
What I saw as worthwhile
And what I thought was accomplishment
Was only proving itself to separate me
Oh how fate had dealt a hand that I had chose to play
Oh poor soul drink with me
Drink with me
Drink with me
Now I am just looking for someone to call my own
Now my years are well beyond my hold
Do not make mistakes like greedy old

Pour your bowls and break your bread
Then we'll drink from our cups of decadence
While we enjoy the skies falling
On our houses made of straw and dust
We forget the brick we were provided
Words are hard to find
We welcome the weight
And our love for the skies
Has altered our gaze
The words are so hard to find
We welcome the weight
Let me feast, let me feast on your insecurities
You can kick, you can scream
But I'll get my way, I'll get my way
As long as you continue to take
For granted what you built your house of
Straw and dust and decadence
And while the sky is falling on you, pigs
Let me feast, let me feast

Rapunzel, the wicked
She looks from lofty heights to destroy the passers by
Enticing and drawing them up by her hair
Once seduced, she hangs them by her golden locks
And celebrates her vanity
When will we learn to never trust a blonde
Falling for her graces
The honey dripping from her fangs
The word she preaches resounds through the streets
Come and see the sight to behold
Jesting every passerby with tricks that treat the sinner
That treat the sinner within
When will we learn to never trust a blonde
Wait and stay, to listen to the song she has to sing
Foolish man, take in the song that she sings
Foolish man, drink deep the blood stained on her hands
Trickery, oh sweet trickery
How I've tasted the spoils of your work
Over and over
When will we learn to never trust a blonde again

Oh little children
Stitch your ears to this message
Let it sing through the whole world
Oh little children
Surely, you will not die
But life will flow through your blood
Let the truth rest in your soul
Let the water of life rest in your lungs
Rest in your lungs
Oh little children
Stitch your ears to this message
Let it sing through the whole world
Oh little children
Let the death of our life begin
Let us build against the knowledge of men
Let the death of our life begin

Burn me to the ground that I call my place of refuge
The only rest I get is that of rain pouring over my wounds
Burn me up
Destroy what I've made myself to be
Tear out the rotting oak that has held me firm for years
And I never thought that I'd see the light of the sun again
The scorching feels good on my faded eyes
The trees have been my shelter
They're rotting from abuse
The forest groaning with movement
Rejoice, rejoice
The trees they hate my groaning
They're eager for destruction
Looking for ways to fell me
Rejoice, rejoice
I am ruined
I am ruined
For the first time I will fall
I will fall
A pile of rubble has kept me from falling through the years
Adding frail piece after frail piece, in hopes
That I would gain stature once again
The trees have been my shelter
They're rotting from abuse
The forest groaning with movement
Rejoice, rejoice
The trees they hate my groaning
They're eager for destruction
Looking for ways to fell me
Rejoice, rejoice
I am ruined
